Yacht Rentals and Boat Rentals in San Diego more than double in popularity during the pandemic.
San Diego Bay and Mission Bay are arguably the most beautiful and sought-after boating destinations in the country. San Diego Bay being one of the largest bays in California, and Mission Bay being the largest man-made park in the entire country, it’s no wonder why San Diegans want to be on the water!
When Stay At Home Orders were initiated, San Diegans took to the web and started figuring out how to have safe places outdoors to gather and many ended up searching for Boat Rentals and Yacht Rentals.
As you can see from the charts below, starting from 2004 we can see that the online search volume has the same pattern year by year in the case of a sharp increase in search terms during the summer months and a lull in the winter months. This remains relatively steady until the year 2020 – the year of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the summer of 2020 search queries on google skyrocketed for yacht rental and boat rental as San Diegans struggled to find outdoor venues to have safe recreational fun.

A staff member of Triton Charters spoke about the yacht rental and boat rental increase during the pandemic. “Operations during COVID-19 were complicated. We were getting so many calls and emails to rent our yacht but we also wanted to make sure to abide by State, Federal, and CDC Guidelines. We were fortunate to be an outdoor venue with plenty of space for customers and staff to stay safe.”
We also spoke with a staff member at Mission Bay Sportcenter who stated: “We definitely received more inquiries for boat rentals. Each boat had to be meticulously sterilized and all staff was required to wear a mask. It was a weird time for sure.”
Another yacht rental business Malarky Charters reported a large increase in inbound calls and emails due to the pandemic.
